About
Kate Moore is an Australian composer who made the Netherlands her home base, and her work sits at an intriguing intersection of contemporary classical music and raw sonic texture. She studied under a remarkable lineup of mentors, including Dutch composer Louis Andriessen and the Bang on a Can collective founders David Lang, Julia Wolfe, and Michael Gordon. That cross continental education shows in her music, which carries both a European rigor and a restless experimental edge. Her composition The Dam earned her the prestigious Matthijs Vermeulenprijs in 2017, one of the most significant prizes in Dutch contemporary music. She followed that up with the Gieskes Strijbis Podiumprijs in 2022, cementing her reputation as one of the more compelling voices in the Dutch new music scene. A multi instrumentalist at heart, she plays piano, cello, and recorder, and that hands on relationship with instruments clearly feeds into how she writes.
