Kathleen Edwards has a knack for writing characters you root for even when they're a mess, which is part of why Rolling Stone flagged her as one of the most promising new acts when her debut Failer landed in 2002. The New York Times described her as a writer who can pare situations down to a few dozen words while pushing country rock toward its primal thump and twang, and comparisons to Suzanne Vega meeting Neil Young have followed her ever since. Her 2012 album Voyageur, co produced by Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, cracked the top 40 on the US Billboard 200 and hit number 2 in Canada. After stepping away to run a coffee shop in Stittsville called Quitters, she returned to music full time and released the album Total Freedom in 2020. Her 2025 album Billionaire, produced by Jason Isbell and backed by his 400 Unit band, shows she hasn't lost a step.
