About
Peter and Zoltán Katona are Hungarian guitarists and identical twins who picked up the instrument at the age of ten and never put it down. Performing together as the Katona Twins, they have built a reputation as virtuoso classical guitarists with a particular flair for Spanish repertoire, drawing on composers such as De Falla, Boccherini, Turina, Albéniz and Sarasate. One of the pair, Peter Katona, has also composed original work, including a piece titled Scarlatti's Transformation that sits comfortably alongside the historical repertoire they champion. Their programme Serenata Española frames their playing as a journey through Spanish musical history, spanning folk song arrangements to late Romantic showpieces. The two guitars together create a full, textured sound that suits the drama and warmth of southern European music, and the brothers bring a natural chemistry to the stage that goes well beyond technical precision.
