About

Kensington have quietly become the biggest Dutch rock band of their generation, a title De Volkskrant made official in 2023. From Utrecht, the indie rock four piece built that reputation the hard way: selling out the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam 19 consecutive times between 2015 and 2022, earning them the unofficial title of the arena's house band. The peak came in 2018 when they filled the Johan Cruyff Arena with 51,000 people, the largest concert ever played by a Dutch rock band on home soil. Their catalogue includes four number one albums in the Netherlands and three Platinum records, with standout tracks like Streets, War and Do I Ever. The road there wasn't smooth: while recording their second album Vultures, the band was so stretched financially that guitarist Casper Starreveld borrowed money from his mother to cover recording costs and buy out their EMI contract. That scrappy determination paid off. In 2013 they won the MTV Europe Music Award for Best Dutch Act, beating out Dutch dance heavyweights Afrojack and Armin van Buuren.
