Before she ever stepped into the spotlight herself, Keri Hilson was quietly shaping some of the biggest pop and R&B hits of the 2000s. Working as part of the songwriting and production collective The Clutch, she had writing credits on tracks like Britney Spears' "Gimme More", Ciara's "Like a Boy", and Mary J. Blige's "Take Me as I Am", while also providing backing vocals for Usher, Kelly Rowland, and others. Her mainstream break came as a featured artist on Timbaland's "The Way I Are", which hit number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped charts in eight countries. Her 2009 debut album In a Perfect World... landed at number four on the Billboard 200 and went gold, driven by the Grammy nominated single "Knock You Down" featuring Kanye West and Ne Yo. The follow up No Boys Allowed brought the platinum hit "Pretty Girl Rock". After a long stretch away from recording, she returned in 2025 with the self released single "Bae" and her third studio album We Need to Talk.
