About
Lou Rhodes, the Mercury nominated co founder of Lamb, and songwriter pianist Rohan Heath of The Urban Cookie Collective came together as Kiiōtō after a chance encounter that pulled both of them back into making music. Their debut album 'As Dust We Rise' grew organically out of travels and shared stories, moving through jazz influenced pieces like 'Song for Bill' and quieter, more emotional moments such as 'The Sea', circling themes of loss, rediscovery and the search for meaning. Their second album 'Black Salt' pushes further into a blend of jazz, broken beat and soul. Lyrically it takes on narcissism, social media, loss and the experience of tracing ancestry through DNA tests. Guitarist Hawi Gondwe, known for his work with Amy Winehouse, and drummer Mykey Wilson, who has played with Corinne Bailey Rae, both contribute to the arrangements.
