About
King Kurt made their name on the UK psychobilly scene with a live show that was as much spectacle as music. Eggs and flour flew through the air, fans got strapped to a contraption called the Wheel of Misfortune and fed Snakebite through a tube, and themed nights saw the band dressed as Roman legionaries while an extra hung on a cross at the back of the stage. It was chaotic, messy, and completely their own. Their biggest moment on the charts came with "Destination Zululand" in 1983, which crept into the UK Top 40 at number 36. That same year they signed to Stiff Records and cut their debut album Ooh Wallah Wallah with Dave Edmunds producing. A second album, Big Cock, followed on Polydor in 1986 before the band called it a day in 1988. They have never fully stayed away though, popping up for live dates across the decades and playing the Psychobilly Meeting in Spain as recently as 2024.
