About

Also known as: King of Convenience, King's of Convenience, Kings Of Convenience, Kings of Convinience

Bergen duo Kings of Convenience, made up of Erlend Øye and Eirik Glambek Bøe, helped shape an entire mood in the pop underground when their 2001 debut Quiet Is the New Loud came out. The album's gentle, acoustic approach was so influential it lent its name to a small movement of artists drawing on Elliott Smith, Belle and Sebastian, and Simon and Garfunkel. Their 2004 follow up Riot on an Empty Street broadened the picture, featuring Feist and spinning off the video for 'I'd Rather Dance With You', which topped MTV Europe's best video list that year. After a long stretch of near silence, they returned in 2009 with Declaration of Dependence, then went quiet again for over a decade. The wait ended in 2021 when they put out the single 'Rocky Trail' and followed it with their fourth studio album Peace or Love via EMI, twelve years after their previous record. Spare, melodic, and quietly emotive, their sound has stayed remarkably consistent across a career that keeps drawing people back.
