About
Also known as: Kunto Aji Wibisono
Kunto Aji made a real mark on Indonesian pop with his 2018 album Mantra Mantra, a record that tackled mental health and overthinking at a time when those conversations were far from mainstream. It won Album of the Year at the 2019 Anugerah Musik Indonesia and even inspired fellow Indonesian artist Hindia to start his own debut solo album. Singles like Rehat and Pilu Membiru showed a softer, more introspective side of pop, with Pilu Membiru specifically addressing loss and grief through fan stories narrated by public figures including journalist Najwa Shihab and actor Iqbaal Ramadhan. The Yogyakarta singer first broke through with his 2014 debut single Terlalu Lama Sendiri, which picked up Best Song at the Anugerah Planet Muzik and set the tone for a career built around emotionally grounded songwriting. His third studio album Pengantar Purifikasi Pikir arrived in September 2023, continuing his focus on the inner life and keeping him among the more thoughtful voices in Indonesian pop.
