Growing up in Toronto, Lauren Mandel idolized Shirley Temple, dreamed of Broadway, and only picked up a guitar in 9th grade to keep pace with her younger sister. Her teacher made her write her own songs, Green Day was the template, and that turned out to be the spark. Now performing as LØLØ, she has built a following that blends pop rock energy with a more confessional, singer songwriter side, a tension she leans into deliberately. She has described her music as "psychotically sentimental", which feels about right. After cutting her teeth at Toronto open mics and landing a debut single on Canadian radio in 2018, she gained serious traction during the pandemic through a string of alternate POV covers on TikTok. Signing to Hopeless Records in 2021 opened things up further, leading to collaborations with Maggie Lindemann and Simple Plan, festival spots at Lollapalooza and Sad Summer, and a place on Kerrang! magazine's list of new artists redefining alternative music in 2024. Her debut album Falling for Robots and Wishing I Was One arrived that June, with a deluxe edition following in early 2025.
