About
Laundromat Chicks are a Viennese indie rock and jangle pop group built around frontman Tobias Hammermüller, with Theresa Strohmer, Felix Schnabl and Lena Pöttinger rounding out the lineup. Their sound pulls from a wide range of touchstones: Buzzcocks, Joy Division, Belle and Sebastian and Big Star all come to mind, yet what comes out feels distinctly their own. Catchy powerpop hooks sit alongside sharper, more melancholic guitar anthems, and the mix of swagger, humor and vulnerability keeps things from ever getting too tidy. They moved quickly after their 2022 debut Trouble, following it up with Lightning Trails the very next year. Their third album Sometimes Possessed, released on Siluh Records, pushes into more layered and cinematic territory. Tracks like Cameron, Sunburn and Secrets find them experimenting with dreamier, more ambiguous moods while holding onto the melodic instincts that made them stand out in the first place.
