About
Leonardo García Alarcón founded the ensemble Cappella Mediterranea and has built a career around breathing life into baroque and renaissance repertoire that most conductors overlook. Born in La Plata, Argentina, he trained as a harpsichordist and organist before stepping into the conductor's role, and his deep knowledge of 17th century basso continuo practice shapes everything he does. His work with the Festival d'Ambronay has been so central to his career that the town awarded him honorary citizenship after a standout performance of Michelangelo Falvetti's Il diluvio universale. He co directs Ensemble Clematis with violinist Stéphanie de Failly and has been artistic director of both the Chœur de chambre de Namur and La Nouvelle Ménestrandie since 2010. His discography spans Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, madrigals by Barbara Strozzi, Handel's Judas Maccabaeus, and rare finds like Falvetti's oratorio Nabucco. He also teaches at the Geneva Conservatoire, keeping early music alive for the next generation.
