Leoni Torres

About

Also known as: Leonardo Torres Álvarez

Leoni Torres, born Leonardo Torres Álvarez, spent seven formative years as a vocalist with Charanga Habanera before stepping out on his own in 2007. His solo debut album Bajo la Piel landed in 2008 under the EGREM label and quickly earned him recognition as Cuba's male revelation singer of that year. Since then he has released a string of albums blending salsa, timba, son cubano and bachata, collaborating with names like Pablo Milanés, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Descemer Bueno and Rosario Flores along the way. Perhaps his biggest calling card beyond his own recordings is the song Traidora, which he wrote and which Marc Anthony and Gente de Zona turned into an international hit. That composition won him the Best Tropical Music Composition prize at the ASCAP Awards in 2017. He is also a member of The Latin Recording Academy, and his catalogue includes fan favourites like Toda una vida, Me quedo contigo and No puedo parar with Gilberto Santa Rosa.
