About
Leprous built their reputation on restless reinvention. The Norwegian progressive metal band from Notodden have been pushing against genre boundaries since their 2009 debut Tall Poppy Syndrome, which drew comparisons to Pink Floyd and King Crimson filtered through the heaviness of Tool. Their profile jumped considerably after serving as the live backing band for Ihsahn, the Emperor frontman who is vocalist and keyboardist Einar Solberg's brother in law, and who returned the favour by guesting on their 2011 breakthrough Bilateral. From the heavier Coal and The Congregation through to the vocal led, rock leaning Malina in 2017, the band have made a point of shifting their sound with each release. Pitfalls from 2019 folded in art rock and pop textures, while Aphelion arrived in 2021 and Melodies of Atonement followed in 2024. Guitarist Tor Oddmund Suhrke handles most of the lyrics, while Solberg composes the core musical framework, and the two remain the band's only constant members.
