About
Boston's Lettuce has been one of the most dependable names in heavy funk since the early 1990s, built on a foundation of tight grooves, jazz chops, and a love for the deep cuts of the 1970s funk canon. The band got their name from literally walking into Boston jazz clubs and asking if they could play, and that hustle paid off. Word of mouth spread their reputation across New York, San Francisco, Chicago, and Tokyo before they even had a proper release. Their 2015 album Crush hit number one on the US Jazz Albums chart, and their 2020 record Elevate earned a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album. The six piece lineup, featuring guitars, brass, keys and drums, draws on everyone from Herbie Hancock to Curtis Mayfield, and their live shows lean into that tradition hard. Several members keep busy outside the band too: drummer Adam Deitch has worked with John Scofield and Wyclef Jean, while guitarist Adam Smirnoff has toured with Lady Gaga. Most recently the band dropped a new official music video for "Rising to the Top" in 2025.
