About
Also known as: Lianne Charlotte Barnes, Lianne LaHavas
Lianne La Havas has a way of making soul music feel deeply personal without ever veering into melodrama. The London singer songwriter built serious momentum with her 2012 debut Is Your Love Big Enough?, which landed her the iTunes Album of the Year and a BBC Sound of 2012 nomination. Her second album, Blood (2015), drew on a trip to Jamaica with her mother and dug into her Greek and Jamaican heritage, earning a Grammy nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album. Along the way she sang backing vocals for Paloma Faith, appeared on tracks for both Prince and Alt J, and performed live on Saturday Night Live alongside Prince. Her 2020 self titled album, previewed by the singles Can't Fight and Paper Thin, marked another step forward, earning her Brit Award nominations in 2021. She has a knack for weaving folk, r&b, and alternative pop into something that feels entirely her own.
