Lil Baby spent two years locked up before he ever recorded a song, and by the time he got out, Atlanta's Quality Control label was ready to put him to work. With Young Thug and Gunna mentoring him, he developed a melodic trap style that felt immediately distinct, and a run of 2017 mixtapes built his buzz fast. His debut album Harder Than Ever arrived in 2018 with the Drake collaboration "Yes Indeed" cracking the top ten, and later that year "Drip Too Hard" with Gunna hit number four on the Hot 100 and eventually went Diamond. His second album My Turn (2020) spent five weeks at number one and became the best selling album of that entire year. It also produced "The Bigger Picture", a George Floyd protest song that earned Grammy nominations for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance. He kept the momentum going with The Voice of the Heroes alongside Lil Durk in 2021, and both It's Only Me (2022) and WHAM (2025) debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.
