Few K pop acts have pulled off a debut quite like LOONA. Before the twelve member South Korean girl group ever performed together, Blockberry Creative spent 18 months rolling out individual members one by one, each with her own solo single, building an elaborate pre debut universe that kept fans obsessively theorising. When they finally came together on August 20, 2018 with the EP [+ +] and its title track "Hi High", it debuted at number 2 on the Gaon Album Chart and ranked as the second best selling debut album by a girl group that year. LOONA's run included three sub units, Loona 1/3, Loona Odd Eye Circle, and Loona yyxy, each with their own distinct sound and aesthetic. The yyxy single "love4eva" even featured Canadian musician Grimes. After a series of contract disputes and lawsuits from 2022 onward, the group ultimately dissolved, with members splitting off to join new labels and re debuting under acts including Loossemble and Artms.
