About
Born in Ardmore, Oklahoma, Lori Spee built her career in the Netherlands, where she has lived since 1970. Her 1980 debut album Behind Those Eyes was a serious statement straight out of the gate, earning her an Edison award and a gold record. The single How Many Times became a genuine hit, and she kept the momentum going with a string of singles and albums through the decade. Her second album Dreamland even had its title track featured in the Dutch film Ademloos. By 1983 she had picked up a second Edison for Intuition and a Pall Mall Export Prize for her body of work as a whole. That same year she recorded a duet with Gary Brooker of Procol Harum. Since 1992 she has worked closely with Herman van Veen, translating his songs and shows into English, which eventually led to the 1997 album Promises. After a sabbatical she returned to performing in 2017.
