Lost Dog Street Band built their following the hard way, crowdfunding albums through Indiegogo and Kickstarter and self releasing music videos through the YouTube channel GemsOnVHS. The Nashville act centers on Benjamin Tod Flippo on guitar and vocals alongside his wife Ashley Mae on fiddle and vocals, with Jeff Loops holding down bass. Their 2019 album Weight of a Trigger hit number five on the Billboard Bluegrass Albums chart, a milestone for a band that had been doing things entirely on their own terms since forming in 2010. The band's sound sits in raw, emotionally direct Americana territory, and their output has been prolific. Alongside the band's catalog, which now runs through the 2024 release Survived and a 2025 live album, Tod has also pursued a solo path, releasing records that strip things back even further. His 2017 solo debut I Will Rise was recorded with just two mics and no overdubbing, which tells you plenty about the no frills approach that defines everything he touches.
