Louis Cole is the kind of musician who makes you wonder how one person can be doing that many things at once. The Los Angeles based multi instrumentalist plays drums, keys, guitar and bass, sings, and produces everything himself, usually from home rather than a professional studio. He co founded the electronic jazz funk duo Knower with Genevieve Artadi, and his solo output sits somewhere at the crossroads of avant garde pop, funk, jazz and electronics, held together by his love of strange chord progressions and genuinely funny, often vulgar lyrics. His third solo album Time brought him to Brainfeeder, Flying Lotus's label, and his fourth record Quality Over Opinion earned a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Jazz Album. He co wrote tracks for both Seal and Thundercat, and Thundercat later returned the favour by naming a song after him on the Grammy winning It Is What It Is. Cole also wrote an exclusive track for Grand Theft Auto Online, which eventually found its way onto Quality Over Opinion. On top of all that, he is widely speculated to be one half of Clown Core, an anonymous surrealist duo that mashes grindcore, jazz and electronics.
