About
Lucas van Lierop is a Dutch Canadian tenor who has built a reputation for taking on demanding new and rarely heard work. He created the role of Man Ray in the world premiere of Willem Jeths's Ritratto at the Dutch National Opera, and in December 2022 played Orphée in Orphee l'Amour Eurydice while also performing on electric guitar. His range goes well beyond opera houses: he has sung Carmina Burana with the Yale Symphony Orchestra under Toshiyuki Shimada, performed with Kent Nagano at the Concertgebouw, and appeared with Helmuth Rilling at the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart. Recent years have pushed him onto some of the most prestigious stages in the world. In early 2024 he stepped in last minute for the Amsterdam premiere of the lost opera Het pand der goden with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, then made his German operatic debut with the Berlin Philharmonic under Kirill Petrenko at the Festspielhaus Baden Baden. A few months later he appeared at the Salzburg Festival with the Vienna Philharmonic under Christian Thielemann. He is based in Amsterdam, where he has been a member of the Dutch National Opera Studio.
