About
Lukas Sternath swept the 2022 ARD International Music Competition in Munich, walking away with first prize plus seven special distinctions, including the audience prize and a nod for the best interpretation of a commissioned work. That kind of haul at one of the most competitive piano contests around put the Austrian pianist firmly on the map. He has since played at major venues like the Wiener Musikverein, the Wiener Konzerthaus, and the Klavier Festival Ruhr, and shared the stage with cellist Julia Hagen in recitals across Europe. Born in 2001 in Vienna, Sternath brings a serious pedigree to the bench. He studied in Vienna and then moved to Hannover to work closely with Igor Levit, one of the most thoughtful pianists of his generation. He has also taken inspiration from master classes with András Schiff and Till Fellner. In the 2024/25 season he appeared at the Salzburg Festival with the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg under Ádám Fischer, a sure sign the concert world is paying close attention.
