Luke Black picked his stage name as a teenager partly as a forty day mourning gesture for what he called the death of the Serbian music scene, which tells you a lot about his sensibility. Born Luka Ivanović in Čačak, he became the first Serbian artist signed to Universal Music Group and released his debut EP Thorns in 2015, drawing on electropop and experimental pop in ways that earned him the tag "Serbian pop alchemist". His song "Demons" was even in the running to represent Serbia at Eurovision 2016, years before he actually made it to the contest. That Eurovision moment came in 2023, when he won the Serbian national selection with "Samo mi se spava" and went to Liverpool, dedicating his semi final performance to the victims of the Belgrade school shooting. Post contest, he kept busy in London with sold out headline shows and a string of singles, including the Lily Allen and Nirvana inspired "I'm So Happy" and the bass heavy dance track "God's Too Cool". In 2024 he unveiled his first full length album, Chainsaws in Paradise, previewed with an alternative metal title track that premiered live on Serbian national TV. Singles "Winter Dahlia" and "Drinking Jack With Daddy" followed ahead of the release, with a tour through the UK, Poland and Finland rounding out a busy stretch.
