Few Brazilian artists have managed to stay genuinely relevant across four decades the way Lulu Santos has. Starting out in the progressive rock band Vímana, he quickly pivoted to a solo career and became one of Brazil's most recognizable voices, blending rock, funk, reggae and soul into a sound that felt distinctly his own. Collaborations with lyricist Nelson Motta gave him some of his biggest moments, including the beloved "Como uma Onda (Zen surfismo)" and the John Lennon tribute "Tesouros da Juventude". His 1984 album Tudo Azul is a landmark, lifting hits like "O último romântico" and "Certas coisas", while the 1988 track "A Cura" became the most played song on FM radio in Brazil that year. More recently he dropped a remix of his classic "Tempos Modernos" alongside Pedro Sampaio, proving he has no interest in coasting on nostalgia.
