About
Maame Joses is a singer songwriter whose roots lie in gospel music, the same starting point she shares with her biggest musical hero, Nina Simone. She has built a show around Simone's life and legacy, weaving her own experiences as a Black singer into the story while performing songs from Simone's wide ranging catalogue. On stage she is accompanied by pianist Floris Kappeyne, and the format blends singing, storytelling and personal reflection. Simone famously rejected the jazz label, describing her work as Black classical music, and Joses brings that same depth and conviction to how she explores and presents the material.
