About
Maarten Engeltjes is a Dutch countertenor who has built a reputation as one of the most committed voices in the Baroque repertoire. He leads PRJCT Amsterdam, his own Baroque orchestra he founded in 2017, which specialises in historically informed performances of Bach and Handel. The ensemble has taken on some of the weightiest works in the canon, including Handel's Messiah. As a performer, Engeltjes brings real theatrical conviction to opera repertoire, drawing on Handel's dramatic characters from works such as Rodelinda, Giulio Cesare and Belshazzar. He regularly collaborates with leading soloists, and his work sits at the intersection of scholarly Baroque practice and genuinely felt musical storytelling.
