About
Also known as: Machinehead, マシーンヘッド
Machine Head built their reputation the hard way, starting out in Oakland in 1991 under Robb Flynn, the only member who has stayed through every lineup change and controversy the band has faced. Their debut Burn My Eyes became Roadrunner Records' best selling debut album and set a template for what critics would later call the new wave of American heavy metal, equal parts aggression and precision. Early tours opening for Slayer across Europe turned them into a genuine road band before the US had any real idea who they were. The real turning point came with The Blackening in 2007, a sharp pivot toward traditional thrash metal with longer, more complex songs. Metal Hammer named it Album of the Decade, and the lead single earned a Grammy nomination. Two more well received records followed before Flynn steered things back toward experimentation on Catharsis, then returned to groove and thrash territory with the concept album Of Kingdom and Crown in 2022. Their eleventh studio album, Unatoned, arrived in 2025, with the band showing no signs of slowing down.
