About
Mama's Broke are a Canadian folk duo from Halifax, Nova Scotia, made up of Amy Lou Keeler and Lisa Maria, and their sound pulls from bluegrass and Eastern European folk in a way that feels genuinely singular. Between them they cover vocals, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, guitar, and fiddlesticks, which gives their music a restless, layered quality. Their debut album Count the Wicked won them the Canadian Folk Music Award for Ensemble of the Year in 2017, a strong opening statement for a duo that clearly had a lot to say. Their follow up, Narrow Line, released in 2022, kept that momentum going and earned them both a CFMA nomination for Vocal Group of the Year and a Juno Award nomination for Traditional Roots Album of the Year.
