Mamalarky blend indie rock, indie pop, and psychedelic pop into something that feels both meticulously crafted and genuinely playful. The Los Angeles band, who spent time based in Atlanta, built their sound over years of gigging and touring before landing their self titled debut album in 2020 on Brooklyn label Fire Talk. Pitchfork gave it a 7.1 and praised the group's complex instrumental interplay, while Paste noted their fluency across multiple genres. Their second album, Pocket Fantasy, followed in 2022 and earned a 7.3 from Pitchfork for balancing technical chops with a sense of fun. The band levelled up in 2025, releasing their third studio album Hex Key through Epitaph Records, a notable step up in label profile. Bassist Noor Khan famously joined after responding to a Tinder call for musicians, which tells you something about the band's relaxed but resourceful approach.
