About
Manfred Honeck has been shaping the sound of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra since the 2008 to 2009 season, and his contract keeps getting extended, now running through 2032 to 2033. The Austrian conductor brought serious European credentials to the role, having led orchestras in Zurich, Oslo, Leipzig and Stockholm before crossing the Atlantic. His work with the PSO earned a Grammy in 2018 for Best Orchestral Performance, a recording of Shostakovich's Fifth Symphony paired with Barber's Adagio for Strings, and that same album also won Best Engineered Album. Honeck is a prolific recording artist, with a long catalogue on the Reference Recordings label covering Bruckner, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Mahler, Dvorak and beyond. Two of those recordings received Grammy nominations for Best Orchestral Performance. He is also Honorary Conductor of the Bamberg Symphony, appointed in November 2023, and has served as Artistic Director of the International Concerts Wolfegg in Germany for over two decades.
