Few bands have racked up a chart record quite like Manic Street Preachers. The Welsh alternative rock group from Blackwood holds a remarkable run of 34 consecutive UK Top 40 hits, stretching from 1991 all the way to 2010, including two number ones: the anthemic "If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next" in 1998 and "The Masses Against the Classes" in 2000. Their 1996 album Everything Must Go is their biggest commercial milestone, spending 104 weeks on the UK Albums Chart. The band originally built their reputation through a provocative mix of glam punk theatrics and sharp left wing lyrics, earning cult status before transitioning to a broader sound and mainstream breakthrough. That momentum never really stopped: all 15 of their studio albums have charted in the UK Top 15, and The Ultra Vivid Lament in 2021 gave them their first number one album in 23 years. Outside the UK, they have found their strongest followings in Ireland, Finland and Sweden.
