About
Mannarino is the kind of Roman singer songwriter who blurs the line between street poetry and proper songwriting. He first built a following performing in Rome's Monti district, mixing DJ music with acoustic sets, before developing a sound rooted in Italian folk traditions laced with theatrical flair. His 2009 debut Bar della Rabbia went gold in Italy and won the Giorgio Gaber Award, and the track Me so 'mbriacato has since been certified double platinum. Each of his four studio albums has been certified gold by FIMI, which tells you something about the consistency of his appeal. His third album Al monte shot to third in the FIMI charts within a week of release, and he won the Amnesty International Italia prize for the song Scendi giù, recognised as the best lyrics about human rights published in Italy in 2014. His fourth record Apriti Cielo debuted at the top of the Italian Albums Chart, with the title track reaching number one on Spotify's viral ranking before the album even dropped. Live, he scales up impressively, selling out Italian cities and bringing an eleven piece band on the road.
