Manowar built their reputation on being relentlessly, almost absurdly loud. The Auburn, New York heavy metal band earned a Guinness World Record in 1984 for the loudest performance, then broke that record twice. They also hold the record for the longest heavy metal concert, playing for five hours and one minute in Bulgaria. Their slogan "death to false metal" pretty much tells you everything about their attitude. Kings of Metal from 1988 remains their biggest album, with tracks like "Heart of Steel" and "Hail and Kill" still anchoring their live sets decades later. Their sound leans hard into fantasy and Norse mythology, epic choir arrangements and crushing guitar work. The 1992 album The Triumph of Steel featured a 28 minute suite inspired by the Iliad, and Warriors of the World in 2002 somehow included a rendition of Puccini's Nessun Dorma. Love them or not, nobody sounds quite like them.
