About

Also known as: Lavoine, Marc Lucien Lavoine

Marc Lavoine grew up near Paris and became one of France's most recognisable faces in both music and film, launching his career in 1985 with the irresistible pop hook of "Elle a les yeux revolver", which shot to number four on the French singles chart. He was quickly labelled a heartthrob, and the tag stuck, but his output never stayed still. His early albums leaned into duets with notable female artists, from Les Rita Mitsouko's Catherine Ringer to the legendary Françoise Hardy, and his 1989 record Les Amours Du Dimanche shifted 300,000 copies. On screen, Lavoine built a parallel career spanning French cinema and international television, including a lead role in the crime series Crossing Lines as the head of a pan European criminal investigation unit. His 1996 single "C'est ça la France", a song built around the theme of tolerance, picked up Best Video at the Victoires de la Musique. Since 1996 he has also been a regular member of Les Enfoirés, the long running French charity collective.
