About
Also known as: Marcus Oliver Johnstone Mumford
Marcus Mumford is best known as the frontman of Mumford & Sons, the British folk band he helped form in 2007, but his solo work has shown there is plenty more to him than that. His debut solo album, Self Titled, produced by Blake Mills and featuring Brandi Carlile, Phoebe Bridgers, Clairo and Monica Martin, arrived in 2022 and included "Cannibal", a raw, personal song he wrote about his own struggles, with a music video directed by Steven Spielberg. Beyond performing, Mumford has built a real reputation behind the mixing desk too. He co wrote and produced Hold Fast for Christian Letts and helmed King Charles's Gamble for a Rose. He also contributed vocals and co writing credits to Lost on the River: The New Basement Tapes alongside Elvis Costello, Rhiannon Giddens and others, a project produced by T Bone Burnett. Rooted in contemporary folk and folk rock, his work consistently leans toward intimacy and lyrical honesty over spectacle.
