About
Also known as: Aryan Ashtiani
Mareux, the Los Angeles based project of Iranian American musician Aryan Ashtiani, blends darkwave, post punk, gothic rock and electronics into something that sounds like it was made for driving at night. He spent years away from music entirely, working as an EMT and planning a career in healthcare, before a 2015 cover of The Cure's "The Perfect Girl" took on a life of its own. TikTok picked it up in 2021, fan edits of American Psycho sent it everywhere, and by late 2021 it had charted on Billboard. Videos using the track have racked up 2.3 billion plays on the platform, and it has crossed 250 million streams on Spotify. The momentum carried Mareux to Coachella in 2023 and a deal with Warner Records, through which he released his debut album Lovers From the Past in May of that year. The album was preceded by singles including a collaboration with King Woman, and featured a music video for "The Perfect Girl" starring drag icon Violet Chachki. His second album Nonstop Romance followed in 2025.
