María José Llergo brings something genuinely distinct to contemporary flamenco. The singer from Pozoblanco, Andalusia, weaves traditional cante and flamenco rhythms together with soul, electronics and pop, pulling in listeners well beyond the usual flamenco audience. She broke through internationally in 2021 with striking performances of 'La Luz' and 'Tu Piel' for the COLORS platform, and her debut album 'Ultrabelleza' earned a spot on Rolling Stone's list of the best Spanish language albums of its year. Her follow up record 'El Juego' pushes further into the space where charged flamenco meets experimental electronics and hazy pop structures. The music feels freer and more playful than before, while keeping flamenco at its core.
