About
Markus Poschner wears a lot of hats: he is a German conductor, a jazz pianist, and an honorary professor, and he somehow makes all of it work. Based in Munich originally, he has built one of the more impressive conducting portfolios in European classical music, holding simultaneous chief conductor roles at the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana and the Bruckner Orchester Linz while also picking up future appointments with the Sinfonieorchester Basel and the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra. His 2024 production of Zemlinsky's Der Traumgörge at the Oper Frankfurt turned heads, as he conducted what he described as the first ever fully unabridged staging of the complete score of that 1907 opera. The Utah Symphony also announced him as their next music director, so his reach now clearly stretches well beyond Europe. He won the Deutscher Dirigentenpreis in 2004, and picked up an ICMA award in 2018 for a Brahms symphonies recording with the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana.
