About
For more than six decades Martha High has been one of soul music's most enduring voices. She spent 32 years as leading backing vocalist in James Brown's revue, becoming so central to the show that Brown himself gave her the title "The Goddess of Soul". Along the way she shared stages with Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Prince and B.B. King, and appeared in The Blues Brothers. She later spent 16 years on the road with Maceo Parker, deepening her roots in funk and soul even further. These days she fronts Martha High & The Funky Divas, a show built around a collective of strong female vocalists. Together they channel the energy and legacy of the classic James Brown sound while celebrating the women who helped shape the genre in the first place.
