About
Also known as: M. Reim, Matthias Rheim, Reim
Few German pop acts have had a ride quite like Matthias Reim's. His 1990 debut single "Verdammt, ich lieb' dich" spent sixteen straight weeks at number one in Germany and also topped the charts in Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland, making him one of the biggest Schlager acts of his era. He won a World Music Award for Best Selling German Recording Artist in 1991, and his debut album Reim came out on Polydor the same year as that chart dominating run. What makes his story even more compelling is the comeback. Twenty three years after that first number one, he hit the top of the German Albums Chart again with Unendlich in 2013. He has kept that momentum going too, with albums like Phoenix, Meteor and MR20 all landing in the top three. He has also shown a softer side, recording duets with Bonnie Tyler and his own son Julian, and in 2022 he wrote "Bastian [Blaulicht in der Nacht]" as a tribute to his late son Bastian.
