About
Matthijs Verschoor is a Dutch classical pianist whose repertoire stretches from Bach all the way to Messiaen, with a soft spot for lesser known names like Erich Wolfgang Korngold. He has played recitals across Europe and soloed with orchestras in works by Mozart, Franck, Gershwin and both of Ravel's piano concertos, and he has made plenty of radio recordings along the way. His discography began with Bach, Handel and Scarlatti, then moved on to Chopin, Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Korngold and Scriabin. Since 2005 he has also worked as a chamber duo with Dutch cellist Mayke Rademakers, and together they have recorded music by Rachmaninoff, Shostakovich, Bridge, de Falla and Piazzolla. Verschoor has also spent years teaching, leading the piano department at the Amsterdam Conservatory and giving master classes across Europe. In 2014 he received the silver medal of the French Société Académique Arts, Sciences, Lettres.
