About
Also known as: MDC, Matthias De Craene, Matthias Decraene, Mattiasdecraene
Ghent born saxophonist Mattias De Craene works at an unusual crossroads, blending jazz and experimentation with Gnawa, a centuries old musical tradition from Morocco. His collaborations push the music somewhere genuinely unexpected, holding a foot in contemporary sounds while drawing on a much older past. The project with Black Koyo is a good example: a Belgian rooted encounter that takes a roundabout route through jazz, avant garde textures and North African heritage.
