About
Maxim Heijmerink is a pianist who mixes classical repertoire with jazz and film music, and he does it without any of the stiffness the genre sometimes gets saddled with. His solo sets roam from Haydn and Chopin to Mendelssohn and Gershwin, with a few of his own compositions slipped in. He introduces the well known pieces in a personal, light way, and the whole thing is full of stories, humor and the odd surprise. His playing is virtuosic and energetic, but easy to get into. His training took him from a bachelor's degree in Amsterdam to a master's in New York with Jerome Rose, and later to a masterclass track in Leipzig under Markus Tomas. He has won first prizes at the Prinses Christina Concours and the Orbetello International Piano Competition in Italy, and was a laureate of the American Virtuoso International Music Competition in New York. He has also played in the Van Gogh Trio.
