About
Maylene and the Sons of Disaster built their identity around one of America's most notorious outlaw legends. The Birmingham, Alabama band named themselves after Ma Barker and her criminal sons, framing their music around the idea that living unjustly will always meet divine justice in the end. Vocalist Dallas Taylor, who had previously fronted Underoath, founded the group in 2004, and their early metalcore material drew frequent comparisons to his former band. Loudwire called it essential listening for metalcore fans. Over four albums on Ferret Records, the band pushed their sound toward a rougher, more southern flavored kind of heavy music, blending metalcore with a backwoods grit that set them apart from their peers. Their third album III cracked the Billboard 200 at number 71, and they even contributed entrance themes to WWE programming. More recently the band has been putting out new music, with official videos for tracks like Burn the Witches and Thrush surfacing in 2022 and 2024.
