About
Mayte makes alt pop entirely in Frisian, and the combination of her mother tongue with theatrical, explosive live performances gives her work a character you don't find many places. Her songs come from a personal place, and her stage presence pulls that intimacy outward into something much bigger. She has picked up a string of Frisian music prizes, including De Kleine Prijs van Friesland, the Fries Songfestival Liet and the Bernlefpriis, which says a lot about how seriously she is taken in the Dutch music world. Her second EP, Tid wurdt myn freon (Time Becomes My Friend), explores personal growth and letting go, and marks a shift toward a darker, rawer sound than her earlier work. She has also been selected for Popronde and named a 3voor12 Talent.
