Also known as: Emir Timur Tokdemir
Mechatok, the German producer and DJ born Emir Timur Tokdemir, sits somewhere between bubblegum pop and expansive techno, a sound Dazed once nailed as occupying exactly that spectrum. Based between Munich and Berlin, he built his reputation through a long creative relationship with Drain Gang, most notably the 2020 collaborative album Good Luck with Bladee, whose deluxe edition pulled in remixes from Charli XCX, Evian Christ, and Salem among others. He also has production credits on Ecco2k's album E and has been part of the Stockholm collective Staycore and London's Bala Club. In 2025 he signed with Young and finally put out his debut solo album, Wide Awake, described by The Face as blending nostalgic synth pop with hyperpop. The record arrived in August 2025, preceded by the single "Expression on Your Face" with Bladee and Ecco2k. A recurring thread through his work is what you might call melancholic euphoria, the feeling of leaning so far into sadness that it flips into something like relief.
