About
Faye Webster once called Mei Ehara "the biggest influence" on her album I Know I'm Funny Haha, which is a pretty telling endorsement. The Japanese singer, songwriter, designer, and filmmaker has been quietly building one of the most distinctive catalogs in contemporary Japanese indie music, from her 2017 debut Sway, produced by Kicell's Goemon Tsujimura, to Ampersands and her 2025 release All About McGuffin. She was the supporting act for Webster's Underdressed at the Symphony tour across the United States in 2024, and has collaborated with artists including Cornelius and contributed to Hosono House Revisited, a tribute to Haruomi Hosono's debut album. On top of all that, she edits the literary magazine Sono, where she also writes fiction, poetry, and essays.
