Meindert Talma is a Dutch singer songwriter, composer and keyboard player from Surhuisterveen whose knack for heartfelt, Frisian tinged storytelling earned him a devoted following in the Dutch indie scene. It all took off by accident: in 1995 friends pressed one of his home recordings as a birthday gift, the track caught on, and two years later he was recording his debut album "Hondert punten" with a group of pals cheekily calling themselves the Negroes. That backing band became his creative home for over a decade, releasing albums like "Ferhûddûker", the book and record combo "Dammen met Ome Hajo", and the American folk covers record "Nu geloof ik wat er in de bijbel staat", recorded in an abandoned church. After Talma and the Negroes called it a day in 2010, he kept busy with new projects including Ausputzer and Meindert Talma en de Rode Kaarten. He has also shown real range: a football themed album called "Balsturig" in 2019 was followed later that same year by "De Domela Passie", a song cycle about the life of Domela Nieuwenhuis that eventually brought him to Paradiso.
