About
Melanie De Biasio sings in a whisper, and it's the sound she's best known for. It came about after a serious lung infection left her unable to sing for a full year, and she built her hushed, intimate style out of that silence. The Belgian singer, flutist and composer from Charleroi sits somewhere between vocal jazz, ambient pop and post rock. Her second album, No Deal, signed to [PIAS] in 2013, got a four star review from Rolling Stone, and Radiohead drummer Phil Selway named it his favourite album of 2014. She's collected a stack of honours since then, including a European Border Breakers Award and Gilles Peterson's Track of the Year. In 2016 she put out Blackened Cities, a single track of almost 25 minutes released uncut. Her 2017 album Lilies earned more awards and a run of three sold out nights at the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels. Back home, she also helped turn a historic Charleroi house into an artist residence called l'Alba.
